A very lucky freediver left the water unharmed after a 3.5 meter great white shark took a test bite of him while Freediving off Wollongong's Five Islands. The free diver Callum Stewart said he noticed seals in the water when he was surfacing off Martin Island. He felt a bump and thought it was one of the seals running into him, but it was actually a shark, and the shark had taken one of his fins off. Callum, and the rest of the divers left the water quickly by climbing onto some rocks, and no one was injured. Swimming near, with, or in known habitats of seals increases the likelihood of having a shark encounter. If you or someone you know is Freediving make sure they carry one of OMNA's Amphibious Tourniquets so they can stop the bleed if they encounter a shark that takes more than just a fin off.
