New Zealand Surfer Treated By Lifeguards For Surfboard Fin Laceration

Do You Know How To Stop The Bleed?

The Gisborne Morning Herald reported that an 8 year old surfer was treated by local lifeguards for a deep laceration to his thigh, caused by a surfboard fin. The injury occurred near Robert road at roughly 11:30am, where the boy was treated by regional surf lifeguards at Midway Life Saving Club.

The surfboard fin cut right through the boys wetsuit, and down to the bone leaving him with a 10 cm gash. His brother who was surfing with him sought help from the local surf life savers, who then rendered aid.

Surfboard fins are sharp, and can and do cause deep cuts to surfers when surfing. It is recommended that surfers surf with an OMNA Tourniquet Leg Rope so that they have a marine, commercial pre-hospital tourniquet with them at all times.
