The NYPD with the help of funds allocated from the Department of Homeland Security will be implementing tourniquets and bleeding control training to its officers. After a series of incidents in 2017 such as ISIS inspired terror attacks that occurred in the city, officers and bystanders have seen first-hand the effectiveness of tourniquets and other bleeding control tools. Since the leading cause of death related to trauma is bleeding, it makes sense to incorporate tourniquets as part of the everyday carry for police officers. Civilians, who like to be prepared should also consider adding at least a tourniquet to their #EDC. The more people who are trained in bleeding control, CPR, and the like, and carrying or have public access to bleeding control stations will increase chances of survivability from terror attacks, and everyday accidents that are potentially survivable. If you or someone you know is interested in learning about tourniquets search for bleeding control training or consult the stop the bleed campaign. The life you save, may be your own.
