The campaign is meant to encourage everyday citizens to become trained and familiar with bleeding control techniques, tactics, and procedures so they can stop life-threatening bleeding before first responders arrive. We have limited blood supply, roughly 5 liters give or take, and we have to keep as much blood in our bodies as possible. Tools like tourniquets, hemostatic gauze, gauzes, and pressure dressings are simple and easy to use. They are also highly effective at controlling most bleeding injuries. A tourniquet can also be effective in preventing the spread of sepsis in a crushed arm or leg from traveling throughout a persons body, ultimately killing them.
