Currently, It appears that a woman was on a dive trip organized by a private company, and the group of tourists were diving off Isla del Coco in the Pacific Ocean when she was attacked by a tiger shark. It was also reported that the diving instructor was injured as well.

Isla del Coco, is roughly 523 kilometers from the coast of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The dive charter boat set sail with the body of the American woman, injured dive master, and the rest of the crew and divers and is expected to arrive Friday night December 1, 2017. Tiger Sharks while noted to be one of the species of sharks to bite humans sometimes have been notably absent from the waters off of Isla del Coco. According to a report by the Huffpost, “The tigers, which commonly roam tropical and temperate waters, mysteriously started showing up in small and large numbers in late 2008 (…) The reasons are unclear, but according to Randall Arauz, director of Pretoma (which stands for Marine Turtle Restoration Program in Spanish), they are back because the island offers shelter from fishermen." 

Update: It appears that the dive master noticed the shark while they were surfacing and tried to scare it away. It then proceeded to attack Rohina, taking multiple bites, and also injuring the dive master. Only those in the water know if the dive masters attempts to scare the shark away escalated the situation, causing it to attack. Bhandari, a resident of Manhattan's Upper East Side, was a senior director at WL Ross & Co. LL, a firm founded by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

Según un informe de Huffpost, "Los tigres, que comúnmente recorren aguas tropicales y templadas, misteriosamente comenzaron a aparecer en pequeñas y grandes cantidades a fines de 2008 (...) Las razones no están claras, pero según Randall Arauz, director de Pretoma ( que significa Programa de Restauración de Tortugas Marinas en español), están de vuelta porque la isla ofrece refugio a los pescadores ".

Antes de este desafortunado incidente no se habían informado incidentes de ataques de tiburones a humanos en las Islas Cocos. Los tiburones tigre, también conocidos como los basureros del mar, son famosos por comer casi cualquier cosa. Se han encontrado placas y otros objetos extraños en los estómagos de los tiburones tigre que fueron capturados. Esta tendencia a comer cualquier cosa significa que un tiburón tigre puede seguir atacando, incluso si la mordedura inicial fue una investigación o una identidad equivocada. Por el contrario, los tiburones blancos generalmente muerden y se alejan nadando cuando se dan cuenta de que los humanos no son sabrosos como focas o peces.
